After Return to Detention, Yaqut Questioned by KPK
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has again examined former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect in the alleged corruption case regarding the 2023-2024 Hajj quota after he was returned to KPK detention facility.
Based on observations by Kompas.com, Yaqut was seen wearing a detention vest with his hands handcuffed as he was escorted directly into the KPK’s Merah Putih Building.
“Apologies from the heart, minal aidin walfaizin, may Allah make us among those who return and those who are victorious,” said Yaqut at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Separately, KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that this examination is a swift and progressive step by investigators to promptly complete the investigation file for the Hajj quota case.
“Additionally, the examination in this case is also needed to continue delving into the alleged possibility of other parties who have central roles in the suspected corruption offence,” said Budi in his statement on Wednesday.
Previously, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was returned to the KPK detention facility (Rutan) on Tuesday (24/3/2026), after previously being under house arrest.
“Our request,” said Yaqut, as he was escorted into the KPK’s Merah Putih Building on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Yaqut did not explain in detail the process of changing that status.
Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to pay respects to his mother while under house arrest.
