After Questioning, KPK Seizes Documents from BNPB Secretary-General
Jakarta – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized several documents relating to goods and services procurement projects and pursued two lines of inquiry while questioning Rus, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Secretary-General, as a witness on Tuesday (27 October 2026).
“Investigators seized documents relating to goods and services procurement,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said at the commission’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (27 October 2026).
Budi said Rus had brought the documents in two large travel bags. “The bags contained several documents relating to projects carried out by the suspects,” he said.
He said the KPK questioned Rus about the employment status of two suspects in the alleged corruption of BNPB’s ready-to-use funds for disaster response: Bima Setiawan and Richard Erlangga.
“Rus, as Secretary-General and an official responsible for personnel management, was questioned about the employment status of BS (Bima) and RE (Richard), who served as experts or special advisers to the BNPB head,” Budi said.
The KPK also examined Rus in his capacity as BNPB’s budget user attorney on the appointment of commitment-making officials.
“Investigators also examined how the goods and services procurement was conducted, from the planning and implementation stages and direct appointments through to payments to vendors, using BNPB’s ready-to-use funds,” he said.
The case began when the KPK carried out a sting operation at BNPB on 13 October 2026, detaining 15 people. The following day, it named five people as suspects.
One of them was Bima Setiawan, the younger brother of Lieutenant General Suharyanto, who was BNPB head at the time of the operation. Bima also served as an expert to the BNPB head while Suharyanto was in office.
The other four suspects are Gabriel Purwaka Sigit, a commitment-making official and head of BNPB’s Subdirectorate for Emergency Assistance and Fund Management; BNPB head’s expert Richard Erlangga; Gery Prasetiawan, director of PT Trans Lintas Selaras; and private-sector figure Syifa Nrika Ghifarin.
On 16 October 2026, the KPK seized evidence valued at Rp5.47 billion. It comprised US$7,500, S$9,000, Rp3.35 billion, 56 gold pieces weighing a total of 133 grams and valued at Rp315.8 million, 192 grams of gold savings worth Rp452 million, and crypto assets worth Rp1.10 billion.
