After Paying Respects to Ryamizard Ryacudu, Prabowo Heads to Foreign Ministry for Pancasila Day Ceremony
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President RI Prabowo Subianto immediately departed for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) after paying respects to former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, whose remains were laid in state at the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) in Central Jakarta on Monday, 1 May 2026.
Indonesian State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that Prabowo would proceed directly to the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He is going straight to the Foreign Ministry for the ceremony,” Prasetyo said after paying respects at the Defence Ministry on Monday.
Brigadier General Rico Sirait, Chief of Information for the Defence Ministry’s Secretariat, stated that a farewell ceremony for Ryamizard’s remains would be held at 11:00 WIB following the lying-in-state at the Defence Ministry.
“The late general will be laid to rest with full military honours at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery as a state tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia,” Rico told Kompas.com on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
Ryamizard Ryacudu was born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 12 April 1950. A 1974 graduate of the Military Academy (Akmil), he specialised in infantry.
The four-star retired general served as Defence Minister during President Joko Widodo’s first term from 2014 to 2019.
Prior to his ministerial role, Ryamizard’s final position in the military was Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), which he held for three years from 2002 to 2005.
