After Pancasila Day Ceremony, Prabowo and Megawati Hold Hands

President Prabowo Subianto was seen holding hands with former President Megawati Soekarnoputri. The moment occurred after the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony held at Gedung Pancasila, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jakarta.

After presiding over the ceremony, Prabowo stepped down from the podium and began shaking hands with guests, including members of the Merah Putih Cabinet and other state officials. Subsequently, the Gerindra Party chairman and former leaders such as former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, former Vice-Presidents Jusuf Kalla (10th and 12th) and Ma’ruf Amin (13th), walked into the interior of Gedung Pancasila.

Prabowo was accompanied by Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya. Inside the building, Prabowo was seen speaking with Prasetyo Hadi, while Megawati, Jusuf Kalla, and Ma’ruf Amin waited nearby.

The head of state then invited Megawati to walk ahead of him. However, the PDI-P chairperson instead urged Prabowo to lead. Megawati even joked by attempting to pull Prabowo’s hand.

Prabowo, wearing a dark grey suit with a black peci, and Megawati, in red batik—a colour associated with the white-tusked bull party—walked arm in arm. Both appeared to be smiling and laughing.

Prabowo Subianto attended the Pancasila Day commemoration as the ceremony’s inspector. During his address, he urged citizens to honestly assess Indonesia’s current situation.

He stated that Indonesia’s economy has grown over recent decades, but Prabowo noted that the benefits have not been fairly shared among all citizens.

“Over the past few decades, Indonesia’s economy has indeed grown. But has this growth been equitable, felt fairly by all Indonesian citizens?” Prabowo said at Gedung Pancasila’s courtyard, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jakarta, on Monday morning.

He added, “Let us honestly confront the realities we face today.”

The Gerindra Party chairman noted Indonesia’s abundant natural resources, stating the country is among the largest producers of key commodities needed by the modern world. “However, we must acknowledge that our wealth has not been fully utilised for the people’s prosperity for too long,” Prabowo said.
