After Months of Delay, 400 Mataram Residents Confirmed to Receive Death Benefit
The Social Affairs Agency (Dinsos) of Mataram City has confirmed that around 400 residents falling within the decile 1-5 criteria will receive death benefits. The disbursement of death benefits for these hundreds of residents had been held up for months due to an evaluation process involving regulatory adjustments.
Head of Mataram Dinsos, Muzakkir Walad, said the results of the evaluation conducted together with the Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) determined that death benefit recipients would now only target communities in deciles 1-5. This means the old criteria, which were not based on decile data, no longer apply.
“Of the total 780 applicants received from November last year until July 2026, after we checked the decile criteria, those meeting the decile 1-5 requirements number around 400 households,” said Muzakkir when confirmed on Monday (31/8/2026).
Muzakkir explained that the disbursement for the hundreds of eligible death benefit recipients would be realised through a planned social assistance scheme in this year’s revised regional budget. He stressed that the budgeting and disbursement process would be strictly supervised to ensure compliance with regulations.
Regarding the hundreds of applicants outside the decile 1-5 criteria, Mataram Dinsos will refer the policy scheme to the regional head. “We are awaiting direction from the leadership regarding the formulation of a solution,” he added.
Previously, 720 Mataram residents had been unable to receive death benefits or condolence payments from the Mataram City Government. The disbursement was hampered by administrative issues, namely a mismatch in the placement of nomenclature or account codes at the provincial level.
The condolence payment budget for the hundreds of Mataram residents was actually available in the regional treasury. However, the funds had not been executed because the NTB Provincial Government deemed the budget allocation inconsistent with the technical provisions of the latest regulations.
