After Luhut and Chatib Basri, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin Heads to the Palace

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin arrived at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6/2026) after President Prabowo Subianto summoned him. Budi was seen at 17:00 WIB, rushing from his car towards the palace gate. When pursued and questioned by journalists, he declined to explain the agenda for the discussion. ‘Stay healthy always,’ Budi Gunadi said while walking briskly. Earlier, National Economic Council (DEN) Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and DEN member Chatib Basri arrived in the palace area at 15:32. Chatib confirmed that he had received an invitation from Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to meet President Prabowo Subianto, though he did not explain the subject of the discussion. ‘Ask Mr Luhut,’ Chatib told reporters. Chatib has been rumoured to be replacing Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, just as Budi Gunadi Sadikin has been mentioned as a strong candidate. Responding to this, Chatib claimed he was unaware of the circulating news. ‘I don’t know,’ Chatib said. On the same occasion, Luhut stated this was a routine meeting schedule with the president. ‘We report whatever the Economic Council is doing every month or every five weeks,’ Luhut said. Luhut was reluctant to disclose the specifics of what would be reported to the President but commented on the increase in Bank Indonesia’s benchmark interest rate. ‘Our economy is good, the fundamentals are okay, but there does need to be attention in several areas because of this Gulf war. This Strait of Hormuz situation is still ongoing,’ Luhut said.
