After KPK Examination, Muhadjir Effendy: Everything is Fine
JAKARTA — Former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, stated that his examination as a witness regarding the alleged Hajj quota case for the 2023-2024 period proceeded smoothly. Muhadjir explained that he was questioned in his capacity as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022.
“It was just that, I served as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022,” Muhadjier said when met at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Monday (18/05/2026).
When asked about the investigation involving the former Director General of Hajj and Umrah Organistion, Hilman Latief, Muhadjir declined to comment on the matter.
Muhadjir admitted that he had initially requested a postponement of today’s examination from the KPK. However, he decided to honour the investigators’ summons following widespread media coverage regarding his involvement.
“Actually, I had submitted a request for postponement, but because of the news from all of you, I felt it would be improper. I feared that delaying would create the impression that I was avoiding the process, so I requested to meet now,” he explained.
While not disclosing the specific details of the interrogation, Muhadjir reiterated that the examination pertained to his 20-day tenure as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022.
“Oh, there weren’t many (questions), as I was only ad interim for 20 days. From 30 June to 19 July. Only 20 days, so there wasn’t much to address,” he said.
Muhadjir was scheduled for questioning regarding his role as the ad interim Minister of Religious Affairs in 2022 in relation to the alleged corruption case involving the 2023-2024 Hajj quota.
Observations at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, showed Muhadjir arriving at 17:54 WIB accompanied by several individuals. He was seen wearing a brown batik shirt, black trousers, and a songkok, while carrying brown documents.
