After Killing Elderly Woman, Deli Serdang Police Officer Reported for Work as Usual

RRF’s face may not have hinted at the storm he had just unleashed. After taking the life of an elderly woman in the early hours of Friday (31/7), the 23-year-old calmly continued his duties as a Sabhara officer at the Deli Serdang Police.

He reported for work as usual, as if no trace of blood remained on his fingers. But that mask of composure collapsed less than two days after a joint team from Tanjung Morawa Police, Deli Serdang Police and North Sumatra Regional Police succeeded in exposing the officer’s charade.

The grim incident began at the residence of Hj. Nurliz in Tanjung Morawa on Friday (31/7) at around 2 a.m. local time. The suspect, who already knew the victim, visited the elderly woman’s home under the pretext of borrowing Rp50 million to pay off his mounting debts. However, the request was politely refused by the victim.

The situation turned tense when the rejection triggered panic and recklessness in RRF. “The suspect panicked and acted desperately, stabbing the victim after she screamed. As a result, the victim suffered serious injuries to her neck and eye,” said Deli Serdang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Hendria Lesmana on Thursday (6/8).

Driven by a desire to eliminate evidence, RRF then damaged and disabled CCTV cameras around the crime scene. Before leaving, he also stole a pair of gold earrings worth Rp3 million that were still on the victim’s body.

To avoid suspicion, RRF chose to act normal. On the morning after his heinous act, he still reported for work and carried out his activities as usual at police headquarters. However, RRF’s manoeuvre did not last long, as his trail was successfully tracked by the joint team.

RRF was finally arrested in the Lintas Sumatra Road area of Tebing Tinggi City while attempting to flee from pursuing officers. He must now answer for his actions before the law.
