Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto paid his respects at the grave of labour activist and national hero Marsinah, after inaugurating the Marsinah Museum and a workers’ rest house in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday.

According to a statement, the visit was a solemn and respectful tribute, as a form of the state’s appreciation for the struggle of the female labour activist, who is remembered as a symbol of courage and the fight for workers’ rights in Indonesia.

Marsinah’s grave is located about one kilometre from the museum complex, which was previously inaugurated by President Prabowo.

Upon arriving at the cemetery, President Prabowo walked to Marsinah’s grave, accompanied by several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet.

In front of Marsinah’s grave, President Prabowo laid flowers and said a prayer for the deceased.

The event marked the conclusion of the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum, which was attended by many people and workers from various regions.

In his speech during the museum inauguration ceremony, President Prabowo said that the aspiration to designate the labour figure as a national hero came directly from Indonesian workers.

“They were united, all labour organisations agreed that Marsinah should be a national hero. And I had the honour of making her a national hero,” said the President.

President Prabowo’s visit to Marsinah’s grave was also a symbol of respect for the struggle of a female labour activist whose name continues to live on in the memories of many workers in Indonesia.

The newly inaugurated museum and rest house are expected to not only be a memorial space, but also a reminder for future generations of the importance of the struggle for justice, human rights, and support for workers.

In addition to being a place to store archives and personal belongings of Marsinah, the museum is also equipped with a rest house for workers from various regions.

Marsinah was awarded the title of Indonesian National Hero by Prabowo Subianto on 10 November 2025.

During her lifetime, Marsinah played an active role as a labour activist and was a negotiator for hundreds of workers who went on strike because her company did not implement minimum wages and trade union autonomy before she disappeared.

She disappeared on 5 May 1993 and her body was found four days later.
