After Flood, Ciracas Residents Complain About Uncollected Rubbish
Residents of RT 08 RW 05, Ciracas Subdistrict, East Jakarta, are complaining about the slow rubbish collection in their area following the flood that occurred on the night of Saturday (21/3/2026). RT 08 Secretary, Djarot, explained that the area was inundated with floodwater up to 1.5 metres. The water began to recede on Sunday (22/3/2026) morning. He added that rubbish collection only took place on Tuesday (24/3/2026) and Wednesday (25/3/2026). “It’s been handled now. But what the residents want is that every time there’s a flood, the rubbish is collected immediately,” said Djarot when met on Wednesday. “Usually, it’s immediate; if there’s a flood at night, it’s collected the next morning. But this time, it was delayed due to issues at the final disposal site and the temporary storage at the terminal area (Kampung Rambutan).” He mentioned that the accumulated rubbish was dominated by damaged household furniture due to being submerged in the flood. “Both; there’s rubbish from furniture, and also debris carried by the flood that piled up. Here in RT 08, there are 106 households, plus RT 09 with 89 households. But it’s worst here in RT 08. In RT 09, the rubbish was carried over here, so it’s full here,” said Djarot. Previously, the 1.5-metre flood on Saturday (21/3/2026) caused rubbish to pile up in the RT 08 RW 05 area, Ciracas Subdistrict, East Jakarta, particularly on Tanjung Street. Based on Kompas.com observations on Wednesday (25/3/2026), the piled-up rubbish began to be collected by Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Officers (PPSU) and the Environmental Life Implementation Unit (Satpel LH) of Ciracas Subdistrict. The rubbish piles were dominated by household items such as wardrobes, mattresses, and shoes. The rubbish, which had been piling up for several days, was still wet and emitted a pungent odour. Several residents were also seen dismantling piled-up mattresses or bed frames to salvage usable wood.
