The mystery surrounding the disappearance of two sisters in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, five years ago has finally been solved. Both are believed to have been victims of sexual assault before being murdered by two perpetrators.

The two victims have been identified as RN (18) and AY (14). Police uncovered the case after local residents discovered human skeletal remains in an abandoned house in the Amanah housing estate, Keramat Raya Village, Talang Kelapa District, Banyuasin.

Talang Kelapa Banyuasin Police Chief AKP Mukhis said the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, 27 October 2021.

“At the time, at around 07.00 Western Indonesia Time, both victims left home to go to school by motorcycle. After school, RN, who was then 18 years old, arranged to meet Rendi Saputra (28), who was said to be her boyfriend,” he said, as reported by detikSumbagsel on Monday (7/9/2026).

Mukhis revealed that the victim went with her younger sister to meet Rendi in the Amanah housing estate area, Keramat Raya Village, Talang Kelapa District.

After committing their act, the two perpetrators are believed to have then taken the victims’ lives with a sharp weapon. The victims’ bodies were subsequently left at the scene.

Five years passed, and the victims’ family continued to search for them. However, the whereabouts of RN and AY remained unknown.

“The case was finally uncovered after a casual day labourer with the initials R (56) discovered something suspicious whilst collecting gelam wood in the vicinity of the location,” said Mukhis.
