After Drug Lord Arrested, Kampung Bahari Needs Serious Handling

The eradication of drug networks is considered to need to be carried out sustainably, not stopping at the arrest of perpetrators in the field. Legal action also needs to be followed by breaking up networks, tracing assets, rehabilitating victims, and strengthening the social and economic conditions of communities in areas prone to drug trafficking.

The Daily Chair of the PKB Central Executive Board, Najmi Mumtaza Rabbany, said that the National Narcotics Agency’s (BNN) move to uncover a drug network in Kampung Bahari, North Jakarta, needs to be followed by comprehensive handling.

“PKB fully supports BNN’s firm steps in uncovering and eradicating the drug network in Kampung Bahari, North Jakarta. For me, this is not merely a matter of arresting a drug lord. This is a war to save the future of Indonesia’s young generation,” Najmi said in a written statement on Thursday (13/8/2026).

According to Najmi, drug trafficking not only impacts the health of users but can also affect family conditions and community productivity. Therefore, law enforcement against drug lords and trafficking networks needs to be strengthened.

“Therefore, the state must not hesitate and must not lose. We must be firm against drug lords and their networks. Their networks must be severed, the assets from their crimes must be pursued, and the ecosystem that allows drugs to thrive must be destroyed,” Najmi asserted.

On the other hand, Najmi assessed that enforcement in areas prone to drug trafficking needs to be followed by the government’s sustained presence. According to him, raids do not solve the problem if they are not accompanied by follow-up measures to prevent the network from growing back.

He encouraged continuous supervision, rehabilitation for victims of drug abuse, community economic empowerment, and protection for children and youth.

“We must be tough on drug lords, but present for the community. The children and youth of Kampung Bahari must have space to grow, education, jobs, positive activities, and a better future,” Najmi said.

Najmi assessed that drug eradication needs to be placed within a broader agenda to protect the young generation. According to him, the success of handling is not only measured by the number of perpetrators arrested, but also by the government’s ability to prevent the re-formation of drug trafficking networks in the same area or other regions.

“One Kampung Bahari is already too many. Let there be no next Kampung Bahari in Indonesia,” Najmi said.
