The Ministry of Defence has revealed the auction stages for the former warship KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara-364 after receiving approval from the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in a plenary session on Tuesday (8/9).

Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry Secretariat, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, explained that after obtaining DPR approval, the next step is for the President to issue an approval letter to the Ministry of Finance.

“The Ministry of Finance will then assess the condition of the ex-KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara-364 and grant approval based on the limit value that has been set,” Rico said when contacted on Tuesday.

After that stage, the Minister of Defence gives approval for the transfer to the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to be followed up through the Indonesian Navy.

The Second Fleet Command (Koarmada II) will then submit an auction request to the State Assets and Auction Service Office (KPKNL) in Surabaya or the local office.

“The auction will be carried out through the mandatory non-execution auction mechanism using the KPKNL e-Auction application,” he said.

He explained that if there are interested bidders and the ship is sold, the KPKNL will determine the auction winner and all proceeds from the sale will be deposited into the state treasury.

“Once the auction process is complete, only then will the administrative process continue for removing the ex-KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara-364 from the Indonesian Navy’s state property inventory list,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Eramawan previously revealed that the KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara is now in unfit condition. The ship has also exceeded its service life.

In 2018, the ministry carried out the removal of its weaponry. Given that condition, Donny said, the ship can no longer function as a warship and cannot move under its own power.

The KRI Ki Hajar Dewantara was built by a Yugoslav manufacturer, ordered in 1978 and constructed at the Uljanik Shipyard in Split, which is now part of Croatia. After plans to sink the vessel were considered, it will now be sold instead.

“Therefore, the government considers that the transfer through a sale by auction mechanism is an appropriate, rational and accountable option,” Donny said.
