After Being Named MBG Corruption Suspect, Sony Sonjaya Thanks New BGN Chief, Mentions Gift
Former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Body (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, uploaded a letter addressed to the new BGN Head, Nanik S. Deyang, after he was named a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. The letter was seen on his personal Instagram account, @sonysonjayabd, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. In the shared photo, Sony Sonjaya congratulated Nanik on her new position leading the BGN. He also expressed appreciation for a gift given to him. However, the post did not explain in detail the form of the gift in question. “To Her Excellency: Mrs. Nanik S. Deyang. Congratulations on your new position as Head of BGN. Thank you for the beautiful gift given to me,” Sony wrote in the post, cited on Thursday, 4 June 2026. Sony Sonjaya also conveyed prayers and hopes that Nanik could carry out her new mandate well. He admitted he was happy seeing his colleague take on greater responsibility in government. “It is a joy to see a good friend and colleague receive a greater mandate to serve the nation,” said Sony. “Congratulations on your new position as Head of the National Nutrition Body. May you always be given health, strength, and ease in carrying out your duties. Keep being a person who brings benefits to many people. Best prayers always accompany every step of your service to Indonesia,” he added. Nanik S. Deyang is known to have replaced Dadan Hindayana who previously served as Head of BGN. Dadan himself was implicated in the MBG corruption case alongside Sony Sonjaya and Lodewyk Pusung. Before being named a suspect on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, Dadan was first dismissed from his position by President Prabowo Subianto. The Attorney General’s Office revealed that the corruption case involving three former BGN officials began with the issuance of an investigation order on 29 May 2026. The Director of Investigations at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman, explained that after the order was issued, investigators started a series of examinations of Dadan Hindayana, Sony Sonjaya, and Lodewyk Pusung as witnesses.
