After 3.5 hours accompanying Prabowo, Gibran travels home in the same car as Jokowi

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka left with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto to receive former presidents and former vice-presidents at Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (3 March 2026).

The moment unfolded after the guests began exiting from the rooms one by one. The discussions lasted around 3.5 hours, having begun at 7:30 p.m. WIB.

Secretary to the Cabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya had been stationed near the vehicles and greeted the guests. After the handshake, Jokowi entered his car.

Gibran, wearing batik and a peci cap, followed via the door on the other side. The two sat side by side, while Syarif took a seat beside the driver’s seat.

Next, the 6th President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, emerged accompanied by his son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, who is also the Chairman of the Democratic Party. SBY boarded a car first, followed by AHY in a different vehicle.

Secretary to the Cabinet Teddy Indra Wijaya said President Prabowo invited former presidents, former vice-presidents, former foreign ministers, and the chairpersons of political parties in Parliament.

“Undoubtedly this evening is for cordial discussions and for exchanging views. The President wishes to hear the views of those figures,” Teddy said at the Istana, Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.

Teddy did not disclose precisely what topics were discussed between the Head of State and the former presidents and vice-presidents.

However, he stressed that various issues would be discussed, including geopolitical developments.

All topics would be discussed; “it hasn’t started yet,” he said.
