After 11 Years, Rp7 Billion Has Finally Been Returned
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Bitcoin owner managed to recover his funds worth around US$400,000 (Rp7 billion) after changing the password of his crypto wallet. This was all thanks to help from Claude, the AI from Anthropic. A user on X with the handle @cprkrn disclosed the experience. The Bitcoin owner said he changed his password while unconscious. For 11 years he tried to open the wallet containing 5 Bitcoin. But he completely forgot the new password that he had configured. The wallet owner also tried brute-force methods to unlock the locked file on the open-source Bitcoin recovery tool, btcrecover. Yet there were no viable results. Then a glimmer of hope appeared when he discovered recovery using mnemonic. The user fed his entire old computer files into Claude for full analysis. Thanks to AI, he found an old backup file that had been decrypted. He also found a bug in the password that prevented recovery. After that the bug was fixed and the crypto wallet was restored to its previous state. Claude managed to run btcrecover and decrypt the private key. In the end, the Bitcoin owner was able to transfer five BTC from the old wallet to the wallet he owns now, according to Tom’s Hardware, Monday (18 May 2026). This method marks a breakthrough in opening Bitcoin wallets. The owner will no longer need to spend time if similar cases occur. Before the mainstreaming of AI LLMs, researchers spent six months to open a Bitcoin wallet with 20 forgotten passwords. The wallet contained US$1.6 million worth of BTC in 2024. However, the same effort could not be carried out by a man who lost US$780 million after a laptop containing 8,000 BTC was discarded in the trash. This was due to a court ruling last year prohibiting search efforts at final disposal sites in his region. (dem/dem) Add as a preferredsource on Google [Gambas:Video CNBC]
