After nearly 10 years of neglect without repairs, Jalan Teluk Leok in Rumbai Timur District has finally begun resurfacing over a stretch of 2.5 kilometres by Pekanbaru City Government under the leadership of Mayor Agung Nugroho. The repairs represent a response to long-standing public complaints about the road’s deterioration.

The Jalan Teluk Leok had suffered significant damage and became a major source of grievance for residents, as it disrupted daily activities and posed safety risks to commuters. The commencement of road resurfacing has been warmly received by the community, who feel their concerns have finally been addressed.

Road improvements are not limited to Jalan Teluk Leok. Pekanbaru City Government is also resurfacing roads in Tobek Godang District, Bina Widya District, spanning 2.9 kilometres. This initiative forms part of the city government’s commitment to addressing road maintenance issues that have long plagued residents.

Residents view the launch of road repairs as evidence that Mayor Agung Nugroho’s leadership is delivering tangible change for the community.

Recognition of this effort came from Riau community leader and former Riau Governor Saleh Djasit, who expressed gratitude to Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho for his attention and commitment to improving critical infrastructure. According to Djasit, the restoration of previously damaged roads will have significant positive impacts on residents, particularly in enhancing public mobility and economic activities.

“I would like to thank Mayor Agung Nugroho for his attention to the condition of our roads. These repairs will certainly greatly help residents’ mobility and the benefits will be directly felt by the community,” he stated.

Mayor Agung Nugroho emphasised that road infrastructure improvement is a key priority for the city government. He pledged that the administration will continue systematically addressing road maintenance issues that have affected residents. According to the mayor, every public concern is a mandate that must be fulfilled through concrete action. The restoration of Jalan Teluk Leok, which had gone untouched for nearly a decade, serves as evidence of this commitment.

Pekanbaru City Government continues to strive towards equitable development across all city districts, ensuring that residents can directly benefit from the various development programmes being implemented.
