The Indonesian Fintech Association (Aftech) has reported that since peer-to-peer lending (Pindar) operators began operating, the total accumulated loan disbursement in the industry has surpassed IDR 1,388 trillion, with more than 169 million active borrowers served. Aftech Secretary General Firlie Ganinduto explained that around 38-40 per cent of these borrowers are MSME players, who are obtaining access to funding for the first time. More than 90 per cent of these borrowers have successfully paid on time according to their agreements. To present a more complete narrative about what this industry has actually accomplished, Firlie stressed that the Pindar industry is not merely about disbursing loans. Its existence has opened a gateway to the national financial system, particularly for those who have so far lacked access to formal banking. ‘There is a narrative imbalance that needs correcting, one of which is that millions of successful borrowers never become news. Pindar is a bridge for these millions of people, who had no banking track record and can now obtain capital to grow,’ said Firlie in a statement on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. He confirmed that many MSME players who borrow from Pindar to purchase stock, pay for their children’s school fees, or top up capital when cash flow is tight have in fact managed to repay their loans without issue. ‘Their stories are also part of this industry’s reality,’ he said. Firlie added that Aftech is also actively ensuring that all Pindar operators who are members operate above the strict governance standards imposed by the government. They are also required to always be transparent about fees and interest from the beginning of the agreement, and to have standardised consumer protection mechanisms that are accessible to the public. At the platform level, the impact felt by borrowers does not stop at the disbursed loan figure. The ecosystem that has formed is far broader than just transactions. Easycash President Director Nucky Poedjiardjo described how the platform he leads witnesses changes in economic behaviour firsthand, particularly among Easycash users over time.
