African shot dead over drugs

JAKARTA (JP): City police detectives shot dead on Friday an African national, who was in possession of 100 grams of heroin, for trying to escape police arrest at an apartment in Cempaka Masa Apartments, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Friday.

City police chief of detectives for narcotics Adj. Comr. Mangatas Tambunan said the suspect, identified only as Johnson, 25, was a Nigerian and a drug supplier.

"We've had our eye on him for a long time now. I had instructed my men to go undercover as drug dealers," Mangatas said.

"On Friday, my men faked a drug deal with Johnson. When Johnson got his drugs out, we got our guns out and told him not to run. He ran. We fired warning shots, but he continued running. So, we shot him. This happened at about 4:30 p.m." (ylt)
