Moscow - Afghanistan has launched new military operations against Pakistani military bases from Kandahar and Helmand provinces, according to reports from Afghan media citing statements from the Ministry of Defence on Friday.

According to Afghanistan’s state news agency Bakhtar, shortly after the Afghan Ministry of Defence announced the completion of military operations against Pakistani forces, Pakistan conducted air strikes in several Afghan regions, forcing Afghan forces to launch new military operations, this time from Helmand and Kandahar provinces in the south.

The report stated that Pakistani forces fired on a hospital in the Torkham border area in Nangarhar province, eastern Afghanistan, on Friday, injuring one person.

An official from the Nangarhar health department stated that “the 20-bed hospital facility in Torkham was attacked by the Pakistani military regime, injuring a medical worker.” The casualty was transferred to another medical facility for treatment.

On Thursday evening, Afghanistan launched military operations against Pakistani forces along the Durand Line—the border that has never been formally recognised by Kabul—in response to Pakistani air strikes on Afghan territory.

Pakistan stated that it was retaliating for the attacks and reported heavy casualties on the Afghan side.
