Kabul (ANTARA) - The Afghan government has distributed more than 3lar 35,000 plots of land to refugees returning to their homeland to build houses, amidst an unprecedented daily surge in the number of Afghan citizens returning to their home country, stated Mohammad Kamal Afghan, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Urban Development and Housing. A total of 35,719 plots have been allocated to former refugees who have returned to their country, and the process is ongoing, according to reports from local media outlet TOLOnews citing the spokesperson’s statement on Monday night. Land for house construction has so far been distributed to former refugees across 18 of the 34 provinces in the country, the spokesperson added, noting that the scheme will encompass all returning refugees. The demand for housing in Afghanistan is also constantly increasing; to address the housing challenges for returning refugees, the government has commenced the construction of small towns in several provinces. According to various reports, more than 2.5 million Afghan refugees, most of whom are returning from neighbouring Pakistan and Iran, have returned to their homeland since the beginning of 2025, as host countries have requested undocumented refugees to leave their territories.
