AFC hails success of age limit ruling
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
said on Wednesday the decision to enforce an age limit on
regional tournaments had been vindicated after the success of the
South East Asian Games.
Thailand won the soccer gold by defeating host Malaysia in the
final of the event, the first to be played in the competition's
21-year history by teams made up entirely of players under the
age of 23.
AFC general secretary Peter Velappan had been pushing for all
soccer tournaments that were part of multi-sports events to
enforce the age limit but had previously been met by opposition.
