KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): The 40th anniversary of the Asian Football
Confederation (AFC) next week is likely to be overshadowed as the
AFC plans to confront FIFA over Asian committee appointments in
the world football body.
"The (AFC) executive committee will be discussing the
unsatisfactory appointments and debating what steps to take next
to seek an explanation and to rectify the situation," AFC
general-secretary Peter Velappan said yesterday.
He said the Asian body viewed FIFA's selection of certain
individuals, who had not been recommended by the AFC, to sit on
the FIFA standing committees as "totally unsatisfactory."
He refused to say which appointments the AFC was disputing.
Havelange also removed all serving confederation general-
secretaries, including Velappan, from the FIFA committee list.
