AESC and NEXTES Forge Three-Year Partnership for 1.5 GWh Energy Storage Cell Supply, Japan's Largest Single Order in 2026
AESC and NEXTES, a Japanese energy storage system integrator, have officially announced a strategic three-year partnership at SMART ENERGY WEEK in Tokyo. Under this agreement, AESC will supply energy storage cells with a volume of 1.5 GWh starting from 2026—the largest single ESS cell order by volume in the Japanese market this year.
Japan’s energy storage market is known for its stringent standards, ranging from JIS certification, compatibility with domestic grid frequency and voltage characteristics, to long-term performance commitments with capacity warranties of up to 20 years. AESC’s strengths in producing large-capacity energy storage cells—leading the technological transition from 300+ Ah to 500+ Ah and up to 700+ Ah—were key factors in NEXTES’s decision to select AESC as a partner. Additionally, AESC boasts a comprehensive global certification portfolio, including JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), and UL (Underwriters Laboratories). Furthermore, AESC’s products have recorded zero critical incidents, with over 100 GWh of energy storage cells delivered globally.
As NEXTES expands its projects beyond Japan, AESC’s global manufacturing network across Asia, Europe, and North America—with a total of 14 gigawatt-scale production plants in Japan, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain—supports both companies in meeting various regional certification requirements while enabling large-scale, long-term operational collaboration. In Japan, AESC’s research and development facilities and plant in Yokohama provide technical support and supply chain assistance to NEXTES.
Japan’s grid-scale energy storage market is projected to continue growing, driven by the accelerated adoption of renewable energy and sustainable electricity market reforms. This partnership positions AESC and NEXTES strategically to capture these opportunities through a supply chain prioritising safety, certified quality, and long-term performance.
