Advocacy Team Urges TNI to Release Photos of Soldiers Involved in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
The Advocacy Team for Democracy is urging the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) to be transparent regarding the designation of four soldiers suspected of involvement in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The Advocacy Team is pressing Puspom to release photos of the four soldiers to the public.
“We are also following the developments of the investigation by the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI), which at the same time has stated that it has ‘secured’ four TNI personnel as suspected perpetrators with identities Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Second Sergeant ES,” the Advocacy Team for Democracy stated, as quoted on Monday (23/1/2026).
“Therefore, we urge Puspom TNI to act transparently and accountably by releasing photos or directly showing the perpetrators so that their authenticity can be independently verified by the public,” it continued.
The Advocacy Team stated that it has conducted an independent investigation to identify the perpetrators involved in the attack on Andrie. The Advocacy Team has identified the strong suspicion of dozens of perpetrators who coordinated with each other ahead of the acid attack incident.
“The independent investigation by TAUD has identified the strong suspicion of dozens of perpetrators who coordinated with each other throughout the night of the incident, as monitored from YLBHI surveillance cameras,” it said.
The Advocacy Team assesses that there was a large, structured, and organised operation driven by parties with authority behind the attack. They are also urging the police to uncover actors from the field to the intellectual actors related to the acid attack on Andrie.
“We suspect that the planned murder attempt on Andrie Yunus involved a larger, trained, and systematic network. Therefore, we urge the police to continue the investigation to find not only field actors, but also the intellectual actors responsible as well as actors who provided operational support to the perpetrators,” it said.
