Advocacy Team Suspects 16 People Involved in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), representing KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, suspects that 16 people were involved in the acid attack on Andrie. TAUD states that the alleged perpetrators had various roles.
This was conveyed by TAUD representative M Fadhil Alfathan during a press conference reported on Tuesday (31/3/2026). He mentioned that the information came from an independent investigation they conducted.
“Regarding the division of roles, we are still investigating further to specify exactly what roles were carried out in the field. But at least what we can map out in general is from surveillance, stalking, then execution and escape. That was done by the perpetrators, with a total of around 16, and the possibility that the number is even larger remains open,” said Fadhil.
He suspects that these 16 people were mobilised by others suspected to be intellectual actors. He calls for the chain of command in this case to be thoroughly investigated.
“With the current temporary number of 16, we believe it is impossible for this to be driven by someone with a low level of power. Their power within certain institutions must be very significant, and this is definitely in the context of a chain of command,” he stated.
“According to us, what needs to be investigated is the chain of command. That is the clearest,” Fadhil added.
He assesses that this can be done easily because the currently detained suspects are rogue military personnel. He hopes the case will be thoroughly investigated.
“The investigation into the chain of command and then what legal accountability should be drawn can be carried out and is very straightforward; this is a military structure, very easy to trace and track,” he said.
He hopes the case will be handled quickly. He is concerned that the longer the investigation takes, the more opportunities the perpetrators will have to obstruct the legal process.
“The longer the disclosure is delayed, we are worried and strongly suspect that there will be more opportunities for the perpetrators to obstruct the process,” he said.
Previously, the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) had arrested four people suspected of being the perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. All four are known to be members of the TNI Denma Bais from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.
“We convey that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the TNI Denma Bais, not from any specific unit, but from the TNI Denma Bais,” said TNI Puspom Chief Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3).
The four suspects are initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. Puspom TNI is currently conducting further investigation.
“Now, the four suspected suspects have been secured at Puspom TNI for further investigation to the level of formal inquiry,” said Yusri.
