Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The United States military is preparing a deadly weapon to attack Iran. The AI-based weapon is designed to strike 1,000 people within 24 hours.

Three sources described the weapon as Maven Smart Systems, developed by data-mining company Palantir. The tool reportedly incorporates Anthropic’s Claude AI, according to Yahoo News, on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Maven is said to be able to generate insights from vast volumes of secret data from satellites, surveillance and other intelligence sources. The data would help with real-time targeting and prioritisation of targets for military operations in Iran.

Two sources said Maven has suggested hundreds of targets during planning of the assault on Iran, including revealing location coordinates and prioritising targets based on significance.

According to one source, Maven, when integrated with Claude, possesses several capabilities. One is the potential to diminish Iran’s ability to retaliate and to evaluate the attack after it has been launched.

Previously Claude had been used to counter terrorist plots and the raid on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. However, this is the first time it has been deployed in a larger war operation.

Although used for government purposes, Claude’s position in the US has not been entirely favourable. Previously the Pentagon had barred the technology due to a fierce negotiation over its terms of use during wartime.

Trump had announced a ban on government agencies using Anthropic tools just hours before the attack on Iran was carried out. Government departments were given six months to implement a phased removal.

In this regard, two sources said the military will continue to use the technology while awaiting a replacement.
