Advanced! Purbaya to Install Automatic Cigarette Counting Machines Next Week

Finance Minister Purbability Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the government will deploy advanced machines capable of counting cigarette production volumes at each company, which will be directly linked to the Ministry of Finance Headquarters.

“Shortly, Customs will operate machines to detect cigarette counts automatically, which will be linked to the centre,” said Purbaya during an APBN press conference at the Ministry of Finance Headquarters, Jakarta, on Friday (5/6/2026).

Purbaya stated that these machines will be implemented starting next week. The target is for all automatic production counting machines across every Tobacco Product Industry (IHT) company to be completed within the next six months.

According to him, the presence of these machines will ensure that there is no longer any leakage in excise payments within the tobacco sector.

“The cigarette count in the factory will automatically enter here, to Customs, so there will be no more leakages; the detection is quite sophisticated,” said Purbaya.

“Including misappropriation or incorrect personification, these can be detected immediately with the new system,” he emphasised.

Through this system, Purbaya is confident that Customs and Excise revenues will be able to grow rapidly. As of May 2026, revenues stood at approximately Rp 123.8 trillion, an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period last year.

This figure currently represents only 36.8% of the Customs and Excise revenue target for the 2026 State Budget (APBN), which is set at Rp 336 trillion.
