Nanchang (ANTARA) – On Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara Province, the sun shines on the factory buildings of Aman Copper Smelter, where production lines operate smoothly and high-purity copper cathode blocks are gradually produced from the production lines. From overall process design to the manufacture of core equipment, this state-of-the-art smelter in Southeast Asia is fully supplied by China Nerin Engineering Co., Ltd., based in Jiangxi Province, central China. The project implements technology developed by China, namely ‘rotary flotation smelting + rotary flotation refining’ (rotary flotation smelting + rotary flotation refining), known as the ‘double-flash’ technology, marking the first full-process copper smelting project outside China.

“We account for 51 percent of global copper production capacity, and we have been involved in the design and construction of more than 70 percent of domestic Chinese copper production capacity. We have long been active in the non-ferrous metals sector in Southeast Asia for many years and have achieved solid results in bringing our technology overseas,” said Liu Yi, deputy general manager of China Nerin Engineering Co., Ltd.

“Besides the copper smelting project in Indonesia, we have also implemented low-carbon smelting technology projects in the Philippines and are developing a copper resource recycling project in Thailand,” he said.

Liu Yi openly stated that the composition of copper ore in Southeast Asia varies greatly, so applying our process rawly is unlikely to be effective. Therefore, we need to tailor the production lines to match local ore grades.

In facing various challenges, China Nerin Engineering Co., Ltd. adopts a customised approach and responds with flexibility. To overcome mineral compatibility issues, they deployed a multidisciplinary technical team to conduct field surveys, redesign the smelting process to suit needs, and proactively study local regulations to smoothly integrate China's environmental and energy efficiency standards with local requirements. When handling collaboration challenges, they implement localised management, train local technical staff, and form joint project teams between China and foreign partners.

Currently, China Nerin's projects in Southeast Asia are delivering remarkable results. The Aman Copper Smelter in Indonesia has been officially inaugurated and is now operational. The project processes 900,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year, producing 220,000 tonnes of LME Grade A copper cathode per year, as well as 18 tonnes of gold, 55 tonnes of silver, and 850,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid as by-products, making a significant contribution to GDP growth and local tax revenue, as well as job creation.

China Nerin's Southeast Asia projects are saving investment costs by 50 percent compared with similar projects in Europe and the United States, and have thus created more than 1,200 local jobs.

Technologies from Jiangxi are not only expanding in Southeast Asia's non-ferrous sector but also into a range of other fields. Jiangxi Hongban Technology Co., Ltd. has invested USD 110 million (1 USD = Rp17,496) to construct a smart manufacturing base for high-precision printed circuit boards in Vietnam, supporting the upgrade of local electronics industry with world-class automated production lines.

Jiangxi Hongbai New Materials Co., Ltd. injected nearly CNY 100 million (1 yuan = Rp2,576) or around USD 14.62 million into its subsidiary in Thailand to accelerate construction of a functional silane production project, thereby strengthening the functional silane supply chain in Southeast Asia.

Jiangxi Weile Technology Co., Ltd. joined the supply chain of leading automotive manufacturers in the Asia-Pacific region by leveraging its core technology in vehicle refrigerator production, with products covering markets in several Southeast Asian countries and is expected to contribute almost CNY 400 million or around USD 58.48 million to foreign trade exports.
