Adrianus stops Thai Singtong

JAKARTA (JP): Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation lightweight champion Adrianus Taroreh delighted his victory-hungry home fans when he stopped Singtong Nontachai in the third round of their non-title bout in Manado, North Sulawesi, over the weekend.

More than 75,000 fans packed the Gedung Juang '45 Sports Hall to witness the fight. The crowd burst into explosive cheers as Adrianus' relentless one-two combination punished Thailand's Singtong in the opening third round.

A dazed Singtong made a double-cover attempt in the white corner, but the referee gave the tottering Thai a TKO defeat in the bout, scheduled to go to 10 rounds.

Adrianus, 28, increased his record to 9-1, three of them through KO victories. He earned Rp 10 million (US$4,500) for the fight, which served as a warm up for his world championship bid against Japanese World Boxing Association title holder Guzie Nazarov. (amd)
