The phenomenon of obesity in adolescents is now a serious threat to public health in Indonesia. It is not merely a matter of appearance; excess weight at a young age serves as a gateway for various chronic non-communicable diseases in the future. One of the main factors triggering this worrying trend is the consumption of sugar, salt, and fat (GGL) that exceeds recommended limits. The lifestyle of today’s teenagers is closely tied to the consumption of fast food and packaged sugary drinks. The high GGL content in these types of food often goes unnoticed by consumers. In fact, the uncontrolled accumulation of this intake is a primary cause of body fat build-up. According to health guidelines, consistently exceeding these limits without sufficient physical activity will accelerate obesity in adolescents. Obese teenagers face a higher risk of developing health complications during their productive years. These lurking risks include diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Prevention must start within the family environment. Parents are urged to be more selective in providing nutrition for their children. Getting into the habit of reading nutritional value labels on food packaging is a crucial first step to monitor GGL intake. In addition to managing diet, teenagers are encouraged to engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily. Reducing a sedentary lifestyle, such as spending too much time on gadgets, is key to maintaining the body’s energy balance. With collective awareness of the dangers of excessive GGL consumption, it is hoped that adolescent obesity rates can be reduced to create a healthier and more productive future generation.
