Adobe has reached a settlement agreement with the United States government regarding a lawsuit alleging that the company harmed consumers through its subscription system.

The settlement value reached USD 150 million (approximately IDR 2.54 trillion at an exchange rate of IDR 16,960 per US dollar).

The US Department of Justice announced the agreement on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Under the settlement, Adobe must pay a civil penalty of USD 75 million (approximately IDR 1.27 trillion). The company must also provide free services to customers worth an equal amount of USD 75 million (approximately IDR 1.27 trillion).

The agreement remains pending court approval.

The case originated from a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission in June 2024. The government alleged that Adobe concealed cancellation fees within its “annual monthly payment plan” package—a scheme involving annual subscriptions paid monthly.

The government claimed that fee information was frequently placed in small print or hidden behind text boxes and additional links. The government also found that the subscription cancellation process was deliberately made complicated. Customers cancelling online had to navigate through several pages before the process was completed. Customers attempting to cancel by phone were required to repeat their requests to multiple customer service representatives.
