Nine residents, comprising seven from Kuta District and two from Kuta Selatan, underwent a light criminal offense session (tipiring) at the Kuta Utara Sub-district Office and were fined Rp 150,000 on Friday (22/5/2026). Among those tried, on average they admitted not knowing the rules and thus illegally disposed of waste in the midst of the waste management crisis. “Yes, the Tipiring session was held today on Friday. The district-level session targets various public order violations, street vendors not adhering to regulations, illegal parking, including violations relating to waste,” said Badung Satpol PP Head I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara. Most violators tried were residents found littering household waste illegally along some roadside edges. The session revealed the dominant organic waste type found by officers. “All violators admitted their fault and said they were ready to accept the penalties. When caught and tried, no violator protested or claimed ignorance of the rules,” said Investigation and Prosecution Head, Badung Satpol PP, Ida Bagus Ratu. The violators were secured through an arrest operation (OTT) carried out by Seminyak Village Linmas personnel at several vulnerable points. Officers deliberately observed from a distance before finally arresting the residents who disposed of waste illegally. Judge Wahyudi Igo, who presided over the session together with Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) of Badung Satpol PP, said he would still show leniency on fines for first-time offenders. However, authorities assured the maximum penalties would be applied if they repeat the offence. Under Badung Regulation No. 7 of 2016 on Trantibum Tranmas, the maximum fine is Rp 25 million. If the fine cannot be paid, it can be replaced with a 3-month prison sentence. Badung Satpol PP emphasised that the Tipiring sessions would continue to be evaluated to improve the effectiveness of enforcing the regional regulation in the community. The enforcement pattern at each stage will continue to be refined to deliver a more meaningful impact. Meanwhile, Badung Environment and Cleaning Agency (DLHK) assessed that the strict step through Tipiring sessions is claimed to be effective in reducing illegal waste dumping in Badung Regency. In several previously waste-prone areas, positive changes have begun to appear after stringent monitoring. “To date, sanctions up to Tipiring sessions have been effective in providing deterrence. In several points there has been a decrease in illegal waste dumping activities after enforcement and intensive supervision,” said Badung DLHK Head Made Rai Warastuthi. For information, joint officers are now expanding crackdown on various violations of Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 7 of 2016, including those relating to illegal waste disposal. (nor/nor)
