Adkasi Proposes Strengthening DPRD Institutions Through Law Revision

Batam (ANTARA) - The Association of Regency DPRDs throughout Indonesia (Adkasi) has proposed strengthening the institutional capacity of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) through the revision of Law Number 23 of 2014, in order to ensure that the oversight function regarding local governments operates more effectively.

Speaking in Batam on Saturday, the General Chairman of Adkasi, Siswanto, stated that this proposal is one of the primary agendas in the revision of Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, which has already been included in the National Legislative Program (Prolegnas).

“The first is the revision of Law Number 23 of 2014 so that regions are granted broader authority. The second is the strengthening of the DPRD institution in the administration of regional government. These agendas have already entered the National Legislative Program,” he said.

He assessed that the position of the DPRD has not been sufficiently strong, resulting in the oversight mechanism regarding regional heads not yet operating optimally.

Furthermore, he added that DPRD oversight is necessary to ensure that every strategic policy of the local government is implemented in accordance with the principles of good governance and in favour of the public interest.

“There needs to be oversight in policy-making so that the mechanism of checks and balances in regional government can function properly,” he remarked.

Siswanto hopes that the revision of Law Number 23 of 2014 will not only strengthen regional autonomy but also create a more balanced relationship between the DPRD and the regional government, ensuring that legislative, budgeting, and oversight functions can operate optimally.
