'Adipura' awards
'Adipura' awards
and expectations
From Media Indonesia
Central and South Jakarta municipal regions have received this
year's national Adipura awards for clean and beautiful cities.
This success should make Jakarta's citizens proud, particularly
those in South Jakarta, which has been honored twice.
Behind this success, however, Jakartans still have a lot of
expectations. Notably, we have long yearned for a hygienic city
environment, free from sources of disease.
They also hope that Jakarta will be pollution-free or at least
have a low rate of air pollution, while public security is
expected to be enhanced to guarantee safe day and night trips in
the city.
Proper public transportation services as well as easy handling
of citizen's identity cards and other certificates without
bureaucratic red tape and illegal fees are the other facilities
are widely anticipated.
The process leading to such improvements takes a fairly long
time and demands considerable funds, in addition to better
coordination and cooperation from various groups. All Jakartans
need to join the effort, according to their fields of capability.
