Former Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Adies Kadir, has left his political career behind after being elected and taking the oath of office as a constitutional justice in February. According to Adies, his health has improved since becoming an MK justice. Therefore, he openly stated that his current position as a constitutional justice is the most comfortable compared to other professions he has pursued. He suspects that the calm work routine at the MK has had a positive impact on his physical condition. That statement was made by Adies when he recounted the results of his routine medical laboratory tests. He admitted there was a difference before his career at the MK and now. “Usually, my lab [medical test results in the laboratory] always has asterisks. Last week, I had a full check-up, all the asterisks are gone. Alhamdulillah, everything is good,” Adies told reporters at the MK Building in Central Jakarta on Monday (13/4). Then he concluded that this comfort came after comparing the work dynamics at the MK with his past history of jobs that demanded high mobility and pressure. “So I have held various professions. Starting from entrepreneur, lawyer, politician, and finally constitutional justice. Indeed, it feels very calm and comfortable at the constitutional court,” Adies revealed. According to him, the independence of the profession as a justice frees him from sudden task interruptions that often rob his rest time. “Indeed, we still bring files home. But we read and study them, and when it’s sleep time, we sleep. There are no phone calls ordering us to suddenly go here or there,” Adies said. Adies also stated that the regular work rhythm at the MK is realised because of the strong guarantee of institutional independence. He assured that constitutional justices can work independently without intervention or impositions from outside parties. “So indeed, it requires peace and comfort at the MK. We are independent. No one pressures us,” Adies said. This conducive work atmosphere makes him grateful to be part of the MK. He immediately felt the family-like atmosphere when he first attended a farewell and welcome event for justices at the institution. “I am very happy to join the Constitutional Court. I just attended the first farewell and welcome for justices, and it was quite touching,” Adies said. Adies also reassured his fellow new colleague, Liliek Prisbawono Adi, that their decision to join the MK was very right. “And Mr Liliek, we are not wrong to join the MK. This is already the right choice. Because if we look at our senior, our brother Mr Anwar Usman, he looks very sad to leave the MK. That means it’s comfortable at the MK, sir. So we are not wrong, here at the MK we get peace in working,” Adies said. Adies Kadir officially became a constitutional justice after taking the oath of office in front of President RI Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (5/2). The oath-taking as a constitutional justice is based on Presidential Decree of the RI Number 9/P of 2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices submitted by the DPR.
