Adidaya Institute Survey: Majority Feel Economy Is Improving Amid Global Uncertainty

The majority of the public feels that the current condition of household finances and the national economy is better compared to last year. This finding was recorded in the latest survey by the Adidaya Institute, conducted amidst global economic uncertainty and fluctuating world energy prices. The survey results show that 61.1 per cent of respondents stated their household economic condition was better than the previous year. Meanwhile, 59.6 per cent of respondents felt the national economic condition had also improved. Ahmad Fadhli, Director of Politics and Public Policy at the Adidaya Institute, stated that these findings indicate public optimism regarding the national economic condition remains quite well maintained. “61.1 per cent of respondents believe household economic conditions are better compared to the previous year, while 59.6 per cent feel the national economic condition has improved,” Fadhli said in a statement on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the survey also noted that the public is still deeply concerned about the stability of prices for staple goods and energy. A total of 63.2 per cent of respondents stated they disagreed if fuel prices were raised amid rising global oil prices. In the food sector, the majority of respondents also showed optimism regarding the rice self-sufficiency target proclaimed by the government. A total of 68.6 per cent of respondents believe this target can still be achieved this year. According to the Adidaya Institute, this view reflects the public’s hope that the government can maintain food security while ensuring the availability of basic necessities at affordable prices. The survey also measured the level of public satisfaction with the government’s performance. The result showed that 68.2 per cent of respondents were satisfied with the current government’s performance. Several government priority programmes received positive responses from the public. The Free Nutritious Meal programme received support from 71.5 per cent of respondents, the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives received 75.6 per cent support, while the Free Health Check-up programme recorded the highest support level at 93.3 per cent. However, respondents still highlighted the governance aspect in the implementation of several of these programmes. For the Free Nutritious Meal programme, for instance, 24.9 per cent of respondents felt governance was an aspect that needed attention and improvement. The Adidaya Institute survey was conducted from 1-8 May 2026 with 1,240 respondents spread across 38 provinces. The survey used a probability sampling method with a margin of error of 2.78 per cent at a 95 per cent confidence level.
