Addressing Concerns Over High-Sugar Infant Formula
Indonesia’s infant formula industry continues to develop with various innovations offered to consumers. One notable trend is the emerging demand for more transparent infant formula with clear composition labels and a focus on nutritional quality for children.
This demand stems from parental concerns about formula ingredients that often contain high sugar levels or unnecessary additives. Through a “clean formula” concept, Mirugo has introduced infant formula formulated without sucrose, maltodextrin, or corn syrup.
In its formulation, Mirugo uses natural lactose from cow’s milk as a carbohydrate source rather than artificial carbohydrates with higher glycaemic indices. Through this approach, Mirugo aims to provide infant formula that maintains palatability for children whilst preserving nutritional composition quality.
The company emphasises that infant formula should serve as a nutritional complement to a child’s diet, not replace healthy eating patterns. Consequently, Mirugo actively educates parents about the importance of understanding nutritional composition in infant formula products.
One of Mirugo’s primary advantages is its use of DHA imported from Japan with patented microencapsulation technology. This technology keeps DHA stable and prevents fishy aroma or bitter taste despite relatively high content of approximately 40 mg per serving. For this innovation, Mirugo received the Top Innovation Choice Award 2026 for its Clean Formula concept—infant formula without added sugars, maltodextrin, corn syrup, and with high-quality DHA imported from Japan.
