The Central Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) together with the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation is providing additional supplies of milk, food, and honey to maintain the health of orangutans. This action was taken after 21 individuals were found showing symptoms of respiratory disorders consistent with Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) amidst the threat of haze caused by forest and land fires (karhutla).

Caregivers at the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan School in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, are actively administering these nutritional supplements to the Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) to mitigate the impact of the ongoing environmental crisis.
