ADB to Fund US$218 Million in Environmentally Friendly BPOM Laboratories
Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated US$218 million to support the construction of 37 environmentally friendly laboratories for the Food and Drug Authority (BPOM).
“BPOM’s work depends greatly on its employees, as well as the capacity and technological equipment used in its laboratories. We are very pleased to partner with BPOM to strengthen all of these,” ADB Indonesia Country Director Bobur Alimov said during a visit to the Makassar BPOM centre in South Sulawesi on Thursday.
The funding will be channelled through a project titled “Bolstering Product Oversight and Market Surveillance for Food and Drug Project” (BPOM Project).
ADB said it recognised BPOM’s commitment to maintaining consistent global standards, including those of a World-Listed Authority (WLA).
It therefore initiated the BPOM Project, which also covers the construction of laboratories and the provision of equipment for them.
The facilities will follow green and resilient laboratory principles to support sustainable development.
One of the environmentally friendly laboratory projects is being built at the Makassar BPOM centre.
