ADB grants aids for Jambi road project
JAMBI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided Rp 19.8
billion in loans for Jambi to finance road repairs in the
province for the 2002 fiscal year.
The repair work will be carried out along the highway between
Muara Tembesi subdistrict via Sarolangun and Bangko to Sungai
Penuh.
Saugi Hamid, chief of the local resettlement and
infrastructure office, said here on Saturday that, due to a
financial shortfall, his office would give priority to repairing
the badly damaged sections of the 100-kilometer highway
connecting Muara Tembesi and Sarolangun.
He did not specify the amount of money that would be allocated
for the road project.
He added that Rp 9 billion of the funds would be used to
repair the 150-kilometer highway linking Bangko and Sungai Penuh
and the 418-kilometer road connecting Bangko and Kerinci.
Many roads in the province have been badly damaged because of
the absence of restrictions on overloaded trucks passing the
roads, coupled with recent flooding.
Saugi added that the local administration had allocated only
Rp 11 billion from its 2002 budget to repair damaged roads in the
province. --Antara
