ADB approves $500,000 grant to RI

MANILA: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Saturday it had
approved a grant of US$500,000 for a project to improve shelters
for the urban poor in Indonesia.

The grant will help authorities to act in partnership with
civic groups and the private sector, the ADB said in a statement
from its headquarters in the Philippines.

Some 84 million people or about 40 percent of Indonesia's
population live in urban centers where poverty has been rising
since the Asian financial crisis hit in 1997. -- AFP
