Adam Deni Requests Restorative Justice in Shop House Vandalism Case, Police Respond

Social media activist Adam Deni Gearaka, also known as ADG (30), is reported to have sought restorative justice (RJ) after being named a suspect in a case involving the vandalism of a shophouse in the Cilincing area, North Jakarta.

“During the examination process, the suspect admitted to all his actions and submitted a request for restorative justice,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Sunday (21/6).

However, Budi noted that the acts of vandalism committed by Adam Deni constitute unlawful actions that must be processed professionally.

“We emphasise that although the motive was triggered by a personal dispute, the method of resolving the problem through weapon-based intimidation and damaging public property is an unlawful act that must be processed professionally,” he said.

Previously, the North Jakarta Metro Police identified Adam Deni Gearaka, alias ADG (30), as a suspect in the case of shophouse vandalism in the Cilincing area, North Jakarta. Adam Deni has now been officially detained.

The vandalism reportedly occurred on Wednesday (17/6) at approximately 20:30 WIB at the Yummy Coin shophouse, located on Jalan Terusan Kelapa Hybrida, Sukapura, Cilincing, North Jakarta. At that time, Adam Deni approached the victim’s business premises and forced his way inside.

The suspect then carried out unilateral acts of destruction, causing various damages, including the shop’s signage, gypsum partition walls, and shophouse property such as chairs and sanitary facilities.

Furthermore, Adam Deni engaged in intimidation by displaying an airsoft gun tucked into his waist to the shophouse security guards, in an attempt to ensure his demands were met.

The actions continued on Thursday (18/6) at around 19:30 WIB, when the suspect returned to the location and damaged the exterior of the victim’s parked car.

Upon receiving reports from employees and security personnel, Cilincing Police officers immediately arrived at the scene to secure the suspect procedurally without any physical confrontation.

In this case, the police have examined seven witnesses, reviewed CCTV footage, and seized one airsoft gun.

For his actions, Adam Deni faces charges under Article 521 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code (KUHP) related to the destruction of others’ property.
