Social media activist Adam Deni Gearaka, known as ADG (30), has been named a suspect in a case of vandalism at a shopfront in the Cilincing area of North Jakarta. Adam has now been detained. Investigations revealed that Adam’s motive for the act was his displeasure after his friend was scolded by the shop owner. Adam’s friend is known to be a former employee of the shop. “As for the motive, the suspect ADM was somewhat emotional towards the shop owner because his friend or close associate had a problem with the owner of the premises,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigation AKP Bima Sakti to reporters on Monday (22/6). Bima stated that Adam, driven by emotion, then went to the shop and committed the vandalism, including intimidating several people at the location. “Here, the friend of ADG felt he was told off and scolded by the owner. He (Adam) did not accept that, which is why the person concerned went to the crime scene,” said Bima. During the incident, Adam also carried an airsoft gun. Police are currently investigating the origin of the weapon Adam brought. “We will conduct an examination with an expert regarding the ownership of the firearm and we will also investigate where or how the suspect obtained the item,” he said. Bima revealed that Adam deliberately brought the airsoft gun to frighten the shop owner. At the time of the incident, Adam kept the weapon tucked at the back of his trousers. “He lifted his shirt and said something like, ‘You don’t know what this is?’ That’s what he said. He threatened the witnesses there,” he stated. “As for the reason for bringing the airsoft gun, he just said he was emotional. It was just to scare him,” he continued. Bima said his party had conducted a urine test on Adam. The result showed Adam was negative for alcohol and illegal drugs. Furthermore, Bima also disclosed that to date his party has not received a letter requesting restorative justice from Adam’s side. “As of now, we have not yet received a letter regarding the request and there has been no request from the suspect ADM for restorative justice,” he said. The vandalism carried out by Adam Deni occurred on Wednesday (17/6) at around 8.30 p.m. WIB at the Yummy Coin shopfront, Jalan Terusan Kelapa Hybrida, Sukapura, Cilincing, North Jakarta. At that time, Adam Deni went to the victim’s business premises and forced his way in. The suspect then unilaterally committed acts of vandalism causing a number of damages, including the shop’s billboard, a gypsum partition wall, and shop property such as chairs and sanitation facilities. Not only that, Adam also carried out intimidation by showing an airsoft gun tucked in his waistband to the shop’s security officer, aiming to have his demands met. The action continued on Thursday (18/6) at around 7.30 p.m. WIB, when the suspect returned to the location and damaged the exterior of the victim’s parked car. For his actions, Adam is charged under Article 521 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code related to the destruction of another person’s property.
