Ad hoc court for TV stations
Ad hoc court for TV stations
From Republika
With the prevalence of TV programs depicting morally depraved
scenes such as violence, consumerism and hedonism, I would like
to suggest that Indonesia set up some kind of an ad hoc tribunal
for TV stations to accommodate complaints about shows that harm
the public interest.
This is the case in Australia, where complaints about TV
performances are submitted to an ad hoc court, and if such claims
can be justified, the relevant TV station can be closed.
Therefore, only decent programs appear during normal waking hours
in Australia.
According to a doctoral candidate studying in Australia, TV
shows more suited to adults are only aired during the very late
hours there. In Indonesia, nearly all stations have broadcast
films not fit for children during prime time.
The question is: Where is the Indonesian Ulema Council,
people's representatives, and parents' conscience?
