Actor Tino Karno passes away
JAKARTA (JP): Actor and movie director Tino Karno, 42, died of cardiac arrest at the Puri Cinere Hospital in Cinere, South Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon.
Family members said that Tino died after doctors failed to revive him after suffering respiratory failure.
"Tino died of severe breathing problems. We are waiting for (Tino's brother and famous actor) Rano Karno to come back from Surakarta (in Central Java)," Tino's niece, Sherli, said over the phone on Wednesday.
Local television drama actress Suti Karno, Tino's sister, added that Tino had also been badly affected by a "serious bathroom fall" at the Karnos Film Studio, run by both Tino and Rano, in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.
"We rushed him immediately to Puri Cinere Hospital. He had the same problem as our father ... excessive iron content in his body," Suti said.
The death came amid strong rumors at the Limo police subprecinct and the Cilandak police subprecinct that Tino had died of a drug overdose, despite the absence of any evidence.
The death certificate issued by the Puri Cinere Hospital in Cinere, Depok, signed by doctor Suharsono, states that Tino died of a cardiac arrest.
The first born of late actor and director Soekarno M. Noor, Tino was a movie actor before he shifted to running Karnos Film, which produced the well-known local drama, Si Doel Anak Sekolahan (Doel, The School Student), as one of its directors.
Tino leaves behind his wife Endang Yustina, and three children, namely Muhammad Ilham, Nabila and Neto.
His family brought his body home to his residence on Jl. Benda Barat 14 in the Pamulang Permai II area. (ylt)
