Activists Supporting Andrie Yunus from Jakarta to North Sumatra Threatened, Families Terrorised

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Activists advocating for the sulphuric acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, report receiving threats and terror. This intimidation is experienced by activists in Jakarta, West Java (Jabar), and North Sumatra (Sumut). Head of KontraS’s Impunity Monitoring Division, Jane Rosalina, stated that the activist network in Sumut and Jabar has received terror targeting their families. Meanwhile, Andrie Yunus’s legal power network in the regions has also faced threats on social media and personal contact numbers. Furthermore, members of the legal team in the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) have encountered similar attacks. According to Jane, legal team members have received terror and intimidation on social media. “There are many anonymous accounts and buzzers with harsh tones, whose tendency is to carry out threat and intimidation against accounts that are advocating for Andrie’s case today,” Jane explained. Jane gave an example of the terror message experienced by Andrie Yunus’s legal team on social media. “Bro, ready to be sacrificed by George Soros? Heard he’s choosing his next pawn to be doused. Looks like you’re in the top 10, because you’re the noisiest and most impressionable in society. Be careful with your family too. If you eat haram money, be ready to be a sacrifice,” read the threat. The request is directed to the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). “This is a preventive step for us so that in the future, our defence work, especially during the Andrie Yunus case, receives protective action,” Jane said. “Today, the protection for human rights defenders is very minimal because there is no specific regulation governing the protection of human rights defenders,” she added. Meanwhile, TAUD member Afif Abdul Qoyim confirmed the terror against Andrie Yunus’s legal team.
