Activist Reports Assault to Police, Lebak DPRD Chair Denies Involvement

An activist from a non-governmental organisation in Lebak, Banten, named Fuk Tjhong, also known as Uun, was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted. Police are currently investigating the case. The incident was recorded on video and went viral on social media. In the circulating footage, a shirtless Uun is seen crouching and holding his shaved head inside a car. The video also captures Uun being interrogated by a man, who states that Uun had insulted and disrespected the council chair. Uun is heard saying he has learned his lesson and will apologise to the council chair, adding that he would accept being killed if he repeated the act. Following the incident, Uun filed a police report. The event occurred on Saturday evening, 18 July.

Confirming the report, Banten Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea, stated that Uun’s report has been received and is under investigation. ‘The case has been elevated to the investigation stage based on Police Report Number LP/B/313/VII/SPKT II.DITRESKRIMUM/2026/POLDA BANTEN dated 19 July 2026. Investigators are working thoroughly to uncover the full sequence of reported events,’ Maruli said on Wednesday. Banten Police investigators have conducted a crime scene investigation and a medical examination of the victim. Several parties have also been summoned to provide statements related to the case. The police have named one individual as a suspect. ‘We have detained one suspect with the initials AS, who is currently undergoing further examination,’ Maruli explained. The police believe more than one perpetrator was involved and are currently pursuing several other suspects. ‘Investigators are still searching for and apprehending other suspects believed to be involved. All parties proven to have involvement will be held criminally accountable in accordance with applicable law. We are also continuing to gather evidence, including witness statements and seized items,’ he stated.

In a separate statement, the Chair of the Lebak Regency Regional House of Representatives, Juwita Wulandari, denied ordering anyone to assault Uun. She rejected any association with the incident. ‘Regarding the recent issue circulating in the media that I allegedly ordered someone or a group of people to commit acts of violence or kidnapping against Mr Uun, this is my right of reply. I clarify that the news is not true,’ Juwita said. ‘I never ordered anyone to commit such violence, and I never had any communication about it,’ she continued. Juwita admitted that Uun had previously contacted her, but she stated there was no further communication after the incident. ‘The initial story was a couple’s private complaint. Mr U WhatsApp messaged me privately using language I considered unethical. I said to my husband, ’Why is Mr U becoming so rude?’ My husband just looked at the message. It was limited to that, and there was no further communication,’ she said.
