Police continue to investigate the case of caustic liquid being poured on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, by unknown assailants. The victim sustained burns covering 24% of his body from the acid attack.

“The victim remains under medical care, diagnosed with 24% burns,” said Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Kombes Budi Hermanto to journalists on Sunday (15 March 2026).

Budi stated that the victim has not yet been able to provide a statement. Police are conducting a comprehensive investigation.

“He cannot be questioned yet as recovery is the priority. The investigation by Central Jakarta Police and the Metro Jaya Police Criminal Investigation Directorate is currently conducting a scientific investigation to identify the perpetrator,” he explained.

Previously, Metro Jaya Police Chief Irjen Asep Edi Suheri confirmed that the investigation into the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus would continue. Irjen Asep stated that his team was working hard to apprehend the perpetrator.

“The investigation is continuing. My officers are still working hard,” said Irjen Asep Edi Suheri to journalists at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal in East Jakarta on Saturday (14 March).

The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday (12 March) at approximately 23:30 Western Indonesian Time on Jalan Salemba, Senen, in Central Jakarta.

In CCTV footage that has circulated, two male perpetrators on a motorcycle are initially seen passing the location. They turned their motorcycle around and encountered the victim.

The victim, who was riding a motorcycle, was splashed with caustic liquid by the attacker. He immediately felt burning and dropped his motorcycle at the roadside, crying out hysterically.

“Aah… aah… aah… hot… hot… hot. Caustic liquid… caustic liquid. Oh God, help, caustic liquid… caustic liquid… caustic liquid,” the victim screamed, as seen in CCTV footage on Friday (13 March).

The victim immediately removed his clothing. His shirt was torn and his body was blistered from the caustic splash.

His screams immediately drew residents’ attention. Nearby residents came to his aid.

“Is it LBH? LBH?” asked a resident.

“KontraS,” replied the victim.
