Activist Andrie Yunus Attacked with Acid after Recording Military Podcast

Jakarta, March 13, 2026 – Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was attacked with acid by unidentified assailants on Thursday (12 March 2026) evening.

Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS’s Working Board, stated that the incident occurred after Andrie had finished recording a podcast on military themes at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) in Menteng, central Jakarta.

“The recording session concluded at approximately 23:00 (11 p.m.),” said Dimas in an official statement confirmed by news outlets on Friday (13 March 2026).

Following this, Andrie proceeded towards the Cikini area to refuel his motorcycle before heading home to the KontraS residence in Talang, Menteng, central Jakarta.

The first assailant, who was driving the motorcycle, wore a white-and-blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be denim, and a black helmet. The second assailant, seated behind, wore a face covering or mask resembling a black buff that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers folded short and believed to be denim.

One of the assailants then sprayed acid towards Andrie, hitting parts of his body. Following the attack, Andrie immediately screamed in pain and dropped his motorcycle.

Police confirmed the acid attack incident involving Andrie. “It is true that such an incident occurred. An official report from the victim has not yet been filed,” said AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, when asked about it on Friday.

“We are conducting an investigation to determine the identity of the perpetrators through scientific investigation,” he added. Roby noted that police had already conducted an examination at the scene.

Dimas stated that residents immediately rushed to assist Andrie following the incident.

“The acid hit the victim’s right side of the body, particularly the eyes, face, chest, and hands, causing the victim (Andrie) to scream until stopping and dropping his motorcycle,” said Dimas.
